Your role at Baxter

Assumes a technical lead role in the fabrication and assembly of automation equipment projects. Collaborate with outside vendors, designers, engineering and plant personnel. Builds, installs, operates, maintains, repairs, and modifies automated manufacturing equipment. Able to support mechanical aspects of automation equipment as well as troubleshoot and assist in electrical component replacement and setup. Assists in de-bug and acceptance testing. Provides guidance and training to plant personnel in establishing operation, maintenance, and standard processes. Analyzes equipment failures to determine cause and recommends corrective action. Advises and assists in effecting design changes to improve equipment efficiency, product quality and/or reduce the cost of operation or construction.

What you'll be doing

  • Adheres to all environmental, health and safety SOPs, equipment, policies and procedures.
  • Able to create sketches and redlines of changes on the shop floor to communicate design alterations to engineering. Provide design feedback in review and project close-out meetings.
  • Completes fabrication, assembly, installation and support service within time requirements established by management.
  • Advanced working knowledge of measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges and digital measurement equipment to perform quality checks.
  • Able to install and trouble shoot automation specific components including electric, pneumatic and mechanical systems.
  • Able to assist in building electrical panels or field termination of wiring.
  • Able to troubleshoot and adjust machine sensors and replace faulty components.
  • Provide on-site training to plant personnel in the operation and maintenance of automation machinery.
  • Communicate effectively on a technical level with management, engineering, plant personnel and outside technical resource and support services.
  • As required, travel to plant locations, both foreign and domestic to install or service equipment. Must be able to travel up to 20%.
  • Able to perform other duties as assigned or required and work overtime as required.
  • Capable of precision machining with knowledge of shop floor metal working equipment including vertical milling machines, lathes, grinders, press brakes and shears to produce or alter machine parts made from metal or plastics considered a plus.

What you'll bring

  • High School or GED diploma required.
  • Associate degree or certification in Automation Technology, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field or 5+ years of experience in a hands-on mechanical/electrical original equipment manufacturer or maintaining complex automation systems within a manufacturing environment.
  • High mechanical ability to follow drawings, choose fasteners and order of operation to assemble complex mechanical systems for automation correctly.
  • Able to read and interpret mechanical CAD drawings/images for machining and assembly, pneumatic and electrical schematics for plumbing and troubleshooting.
  • Skilled using hand tools as well as hand power tools.
  • Able to route and terminate electrical wiring to replace field components on equipment.
  • Able to perform general circuit testing including voltage, resistance and current to identify faulty components and replace as needed.
  • Good communication ability and basic computer skills required.
  • Solid math aptitude including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions is required.
  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Able to work from heights up to 10 ft. and in limited spaces within equipment to install and service systems. Work while wearing proper PPE and/or donning cleanroom clothing in medical manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and draw accurate conclusions based on available information.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $68,000-$93,500 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
