Are you an experienced engineering leader with deep expertise in electrical systems, industrial automation, and GMP environments? We’re seeking a Systems Engineering Manager – Automation, Electrical & Compliance to serve as the site’s technical authority and drive excellence across electrical engineering, controls, compliance, and energy management.

This is a high‑impact role responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and compliance of all electrical and automation systems that support GMP manufacturing operations. You will champion engineering governance, lead technical investigations, guide a skilled team, and influence strategy across the site.

About the Role

As the Systems Engineering Manager, you will:

Site Electrical Engineering Authority

  • Act as the designated Site Electrical Engineering Authority.

  • Provide governance across all LV electrical systems, MCCs, VSDs, and electrical distribution.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, standards, and codes.

  • Oversee electrical risk assessments, arc flash studies, protection coordination, LOTO, and hazardous area compliance.

  • Approve all electrical designs and modifications.

  • Maintain statutory inspections, certifications, and documentation.

  • Promote a culture of zero harm and strong electrical safety practices.

Automation & Control Systems Leadership

  • Own the site’s PLC, SCADA, HMI, and control system architecture.

  • Ensure control systems align with GMP and manufacturing requirements.

  • Lead governance of change control, software versioning, cybersecurity, and backup/disaster recovery processes.

  • Drive system reliability improvements and reduce unplanned downtime.

  • Provide technical leadership for investigations and root cause analysis.

Regulatory & GMP Compliance

  • Ensure engineering systems fully support GMP manufacturing standards.

  • Maintain audit readiness across all electrical and automation systems.

  • Support IQ/OQ validation activities.

  • Ensure all engineering drawings, SOPs, and documentation are accurate and controlled.

Asset Management & Maintenance Governance

  • Ensure integrity of electrical CMMS data.

  • Oversee preventive maintenance strategies and statutory inspection programs.

  • Manage engineering compliance KPIs and reporting.

Change Management

  • Govern engineering change control, including critical work orders.

  • Ensure all designs, risk assessments, and contractor work comply with site standards.

Minor Capital Projects – Electrical & Controls

  • Lead end‑to‑end delivery of minor capital projects.

  • Define scope, manage budgets, oversee contractors, and control timelines.

  • Manage installation, commissioning, and handover.

  • Ensure all project activities meet GMP, validation, and safety requirements.

Site Energy Management

  • Lead optimisation of site energy systems (electricity, steam, compressed air, chilled water, purified water, etc.).

  • Develop and deliver energy strategies aligned with sustainability and decarbonisation goals.

  • Analyse energy performance and drive efficiency initiatives.

  • Support capital planning for energy‑efficient technologies.

Leadership & Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Lead and develop a team of electrical and automation engineers.

  • Partner with Maintenance, Production, Quality, and EHS.

  • Provide technical leadership during audits, deviations, and investigations.

  • Foster a culture of compliance, reliability, and continuous improvement.;

Qualificationsand Skills:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering or equivalent.

  • Chartered or working toward professional accreditation (desirable).

  • 10+ years’ experience in GMP and industrial manufacturing.

  • Technical authority & governance

Experience :

  • Site electrical engineer or electrical authority

  • Automation/controls engineering lead

  • Experience in aseptic, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, or other regulated environments.

  • Understanding and knowledge of GMP principles

  • Knowledge of steam systems in power generation, water treatment and distillation processes.
