The Automation Technician is part of the Workshop Department and plays a key role in the end‑to‑end process of building automated machinery. This position supports the entire lifecycle of our equipment — from early design collaboration, through assembly and commissioning, to installation at global Baxter manufacturing sites.
The machines you help build directly support the production of a wide range of Baxter products that save and sustain the lives of patients worldwide.

WHAT YOU''LL BE DOING:

  • Independently manage machine and electrical cabinet wiring, ensuring alignment with project timelines and technical goals.
  • Evaluate and provide input on the mechanical aspects of the machine during the design and build phases.
  • Collaborate effectively with external contractors and suppliers.
  • Coordinate with internal teams — including electrical technicians, mechanical designers, and software developers — to ensure on‑time delivery of assigned projects.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) standards to ensure a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace.
  • Interface with cross‑functional partners such as engineering, design, plant personnel, and external vendors to ensure successful design, fabrication, assembly, and machine functionality.
  • Follow up on the construction and manufacturing of major machine assemblies.
  • Recommend process improvements based on technical knowledge and hands‑on experience.
  • Travel up to 40%, both domestically and internationally, to support machine installation, start‑up, and after‑sales service.

WHAT YOU''LL BRING:

  • Solid understanding of the fundamental principles within multiple engineering disciplines and their application to automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Knowledge of machine construction, including mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and robotic systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic design packages to assemble and wire machines accordingly.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to effectively support a larger project team.
  • Ability to analyze and mitigate potential failure modes related to safety, product quality, and machine reliability.
  • Proficiency in reading technical drawings, facility layouts, manuals, and instruction sets to assemble and commission automated machinery.
  • Hands‑on, problem‑solving attitude on the shop floor and at customer locations.
  • Language skills: English (minimum B2) and Italian (required for Campo site).

Education & Experience

  • Technical high school diploma or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in a workshop environment focused on automatic machine construction.
  • Good command of the MS Office suite.
  • Basic knowledge of PLC programming and AutoCAD software.
