As the Vice President, Medical Affairs (MA), Healthcare Systems and Technologies (HST) you will work as a strategic partner to the Segment President, Regional leaders and cross-functional leaders to ensure that the medical and clinical needs of the HST segment are met and that talent is available to support the full range of medically-related activities. Your will be the leading medical expert in the segment representing all licensed products.

You will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Worldwide Medical (WWM) vision, mission, strategy, and action plan in alignment with the strategies and plans of the segments.  You will provide subject matter expertise for innovation, new product development and support development of key clinical evidence for regulatory registration, clinical claims and in support of clinical value propositions.  In addition, you will ensure that the regional Medical Strategies support the regional plans; and will act as one of the primary spokespersons for the company with key opinion leaders, at global scientific conferences, advisory boards, and regulatory agencies. Furthermore, you will be accountable to ensure that global standards align to the WWM standards and policies and appropriately implement all aspects of Medical Affairs.

As the VP MA, HST, you will be accountable for establishing, nurturing, and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with critical WWM colleagues (such as Clinical Research, Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR)/Real-world evidence (RWE), Global Patient Safety, WWM Operations and Governance and with cross-function partners (such as commercial,  R&D, RA, Quality) to enable a highly efficient and effective working environment.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Accountable for leading and guiding a Medical Affairs team, establishing and supporting highly functional working relationships with WWM and cross-functional partners.

  • Accountable for WWM work required to support the segment including thought leadership for business strategy, innovation/new product development, clinical evidence generation strategy and sustaining product activities to ensure successful product approval, launch, and sustenance.

  • Responsible for representing the company with regulatory and legislative agencies for medically-related products discussions.

  • Provide expert opinion/due diligence support on business development opportunities.

  • Ensure all aspects of the WWM organization are staffed with the appropriate talent.

  • Develop and manage budgets within scope of responsibility.

  • Provide leadership for clinical evidence generation strategy, scientific and compliance oversight for Investigator Initiated Research and Key opinion leader management.

  • Partner within WWM for clinical development teams and with HEOR and RWE team.

  • Support Global Patient Safety as a product and subject matter expert.

  • Ability to travel up to 30%.

Your Team:

As the VP Medical Affairs, HST, you will report directly to the Chief Medical and Scientific Officer with a dotted line to the segment President.  You will lead a total organization of 19 via 4 direct reports. And you will be part of the Worldwide Medical and Regulatory (WWMR) leadership team as well as the HST segment leadership team. 

Your Location:

The role is located at our global corporate headquarters in the greater Chicago, IL area northern suburb of Deerfield.  Relocation will be considered.  Additionally candidates residing in Batesville, IN, Bellevue, WA, Raleigh, NC, Skaneateles Falls, NY, or St. Paul, MN will also be considered.  Baxter is committed to supporting the needs for flexibility in the workplace. What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; higher education is highly preferred.  Masters in Nursing is ideal.

  • Must have working experience of patient care in a hospital setting.

  • At least 10 years of MedTech industry experience, with experience in digitally connected care and Informatics, innovation and new product development.

  • Field based Medical Affairs is desirable but not required.

  • Minimum 8 years strategic and technical management experience including cross-functional teams, resource and budget management and strategic development experience.

  • People leadership in complex, highly matrixed organizations.

  • Mature personality with excellent leadership, managerial and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with multiple stakeholders (internal and external) on a variety of levels, to build relationships of credibility and trust with them and to operate efficiently and effectively in a complex matrix organization.

  • Possesses highly developed business acumen skills.

  • Able to deal well with ambiguity.

  • Effective communicating complex scientific/clinical issues in a concise and clear manner.

  • Capable of prioritizing and discriminating between critical and non-critical activities and develop or improve processes.

  • Executive presence and ability to influence customers and other stakeholders.

  • Operates with the highest degrees of ethics.

  • Broad understanding of the regulatory and healthcare environment, particularly in the US and understanding of EU MDR.

  • Empathetic style with the ability to motivate others.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $312,000 - $429,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and long-term incentive.
